Our History

Serving South Brunswick since 1966
On January 4, 1966, the New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association granted the South Brunswick Police Department its charter, formally establishing PBA Local 166.
The founding officers were:
President: Patrolman Frank Schuessler
Vice President: Patrolman Frank Simmons
State Delegate: Patrolman Robert McDonald
Secretary & Treasurer: Patrolman Barry Spilatore
Recording Secretary: Patrolman Dorsey Trent
From its beginning, PBA Local 166 was created to represent and protect the interests of South Brunswick’s police officers while fostering a strong bond with the community. Over the decades, Local 166 has grown alongside the township, advocating for fair working conditions, supporting officers’ professional development, and investing deeply in community outreach.
Notable milestones include the opening of a public pistol, rifle, and trap range in the 1980s, decades of collective bargaining on behalf of officers, and the establishment of benevolence programs that provide assistance to local families in need. Today, PBA Local 166 continues to stand as both a union and a community partner, committed to professionalism, integrity, and service.

South Brunswick PBA Local 166 is the collective voice of the men and women who serve and protect our township. We are a proud chapter of the New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association (NJSPBA), working to ensure that our officers have the resources, representation, and support necessary to do their jobs effectively and safely.
Our mission goes beyond advocacy for officers. We are equally committed to building trust, strengthening relationships, and giving back to the community we serve. Through fundraising, benevolence programs, sponsorships, and community events, PBA Local 166 supports local families, youth initiatives, and charitable causes.
We believe that a strong police-community partnerships is essential to public safety. By working together, we not only protect our township but also ensure that South Brunswick remains a safe, welcoming, and thriving place to live and work.
